Call to Worship The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. You have multiplied the nation; You have increased its joy; For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; And the government shall be upon his shoulder, And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. -Isaiah 9:1-3;6
Reading 1 I will lead the blind by a road they do not know, By the paths they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I will do and I will not forsake them. -Isaiah 42:16
Reading 2 The Advent wreath is a circle with no beginning and no end. It is a symbol of God’s unending love and faithfulness. Its light reminds us of Jesus, the light of the world. In him was life, and the life was the light of all people.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. Once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Live as children of light. If we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. We are all children of light and children of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. Jesus said, “Everyone who believes in me should not remain in the darkness.” -from The Worship Sourcebook; based on John 1:4-5; 12:46; Ephesians 5:8; 1 Thessalonians 5:5; 1 John 1:7,
